Social Media Calendars

5-3-20

If you are anything like me, keeping up with social media postings and coming up with new ideas for content can be a bit of a daunting task. Luckily, there is a way to ease this constant struggle and keep your viewers entertained and attentive. The way to accomplish this is with social media calendars.

If you have been following my blog posts, you may recall the one where I talked about Hootsuite and how great of a tool I believe it is. One of the main reasons I believe this is because of their built-in calendar system. It allows you to schedule posts for multiple social media platforms all at once. With this, you do not have to think about posting everyday. You can dedicate a little bit of time one day to come up with and schedule posts for throughout the week! You can pick the date, time, hashtags, personal tags, etc., all in advance so you are not scrambling to put something together every single day and taking up a lot of your time.

However, you do not need a fancy website or tools in order to be able to utilize a social media calendar! You can use a spreadsheet or even a notebook for that matter. Many social media platforms allow you to schedule posts direct through their apps nowadays.

Entertainment

Entertainment covers a wide variety of fields from movies, tv shows, music, etc. Each one has a specific use for social media and it is best for them to figure out what works best for their brand. Whether they are trying to focus more on brand awareness or creating hype for an upcoming event, social media should be one of their main focuses as it can be free publicity depend on following. If your following is small at the moment, most (if not all) social media platforms have ways to boost your posting(s) for a price which can reach a large number of people. Social Media is also a great way to find ambassadors for your brand and to gain followers through them. For a more in-depth look at how social media can be used in the entertainment field check out this link.

Sports

Sports is basically a subset of entertainment, however, it is such a big one that it is usually separate from the entertainment category all together. Social Media is a great way for sports networks and teams to figure out new recruits, live stream events, and even figure out the public standing on specific teams. Sports is a big platform for athletes and coaches, make sure you are keeping a level-head and concentration when dealing with people even you are a fan of. For tips on how to use social media for your sports campaign, click on this link.

Crisis Communication

Crisis Communication is important for any brand. You never know when something is going to gain traction for the wrong reasons and negatively affect you. You should always have a plan and a dedicated team to handle these situations if and when they popup out of nowhere. It is better to be prepared and focused rather than being caught off guard and not having any solutions. Also, in these situations, it is better to be transparent and apologetic for anything the public deems negative. Journalism

Journalism is nothing new. However, using Social Media for Journalists is somewhat. Journalists are now using Social Media to find new stories faster, along with being able to post about it faster as well. They also have a chance to gain more followers and appreciation for their work because their name is more front and center. Also, it is an easy way for followers to find their work in one place as well if they are a fan. For more information on why Journalists should be using Social Media check this out.

Utilizing Social Media

4-12-20

Social Media is a fantastic tool for any business or entrepreneur to be able to network and promote their work. However, there are certain tips that can enhance your engagements and expanding your following. This is turn will help grow your business and potential revenue.

Tip #1: Know your Target Audience

Knowing your audience is key to having successful posts with as many engagements as possible. You need to tailor your message based on who is seeing it. This can also affect who will be attracted to join your community.

If you are trying to reach business professionals, you should be more professional and straightforward with your message and delivery.

If you are trying to reach college students, you can probably be a little more personal and fun with your posts. You will need to keep up with social trends to attract the biggest audience.

Tip #2: What Platform is being used by your Audience?

You need to be present on the platforms that are most being used by your audience.

Continuing with the examples in tip 1, if you are trying to reach buisness professionals, you will most likely be utilizing Facebook and LinkedIn to be able to reach the people you are trying to attract.

For college students, you will probably be using Instagram, SnapChat, and maybe even TicTok if that decides to stick around.

Tip #3: What Content resonates best with your Audience?

This one is a little more challenging and will probably require research from peers within your industry to see what is working and what is not.

For business professionals, you will probably lean more towards Blogs, White Papers, Infographics, Newsletters, and things of that nature. They want to know the facts and do not really care about the attraction of posts.

For college students, you will want to lean more towards Pictures, Videos, Podcasts, Social Media Engagements, and Influencer/Ambassador Relations. This will keep younger people more interested and engaged along with giving them a voice they can “trust” through influencers/ambassadors.

Tip #4: Experiment with Posting Times & Amount to get the most engagements

There are general rules with the amount of posts for different platforms.

For Twitter and SnapChat, there is basically no such thing as over posting. Both platforms move incredibly fast and posting more often gives you a better chance of getting noticed.

On the other hand, platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn require more thought out and strategic posts 1-2 times a day. They should be engaging and visually appealing to attract reactions and boost your post organically.

For times of posting, I believe the more effective way to get the best results is to do research on your audience and when they are typically most active along with experimenting with different times and seeing what works best for those following your socials.

Tip #5: Be Consistent across all platforms with content and voice

With all of these tips in mind, you need to be sure you are consistent with content and voice through out all platforms being utilized. This will make your company seem more organized, professional, and trustworthy by doing so.

COVID-19

4-5-20

With the outbreak of the Corona Virus and most everything being shutdown or limited in-person interaction, it has never been more important to have a social media presence than now.

If you do not have any social media accounts for your brand or business, there is no time like the present. I would suggest doing some self-investigation and figure out what kind of audience you attract and have influence with. Take that information and figure out what social media platforms those people are using and create yourself an account on the appropriate sites.

If you do have social media accounts, but haven’t been utilizing them to their full potential, now is the time to update and get to work on growing your following/audience. Make sure you are posting on each site at least once a day. If you are using twitter you can up that too about 5-10 times a day due to its fast paced and post algorithms. With these posts, make sure you understand your audience for each platform and tailoring your message and post to attract the most interactions. This way you will, eventually, gain new followers and gain more brand awareness in the process, therefore boosting your business and/or influence.

Finally, if you have been doing all these things, congratulations! You are officially ahead of the curve and prepared as best as you can be in these unprecedented times. With locations being close and limited personal interaction, a social media presence is now more important than ever. You need to build an online persona to be able to maintain your customer’s loyality and continue to build your brand/business, regardless of your current size and standing.

I hope you are all staying safe, inside, and healthy.

Social Media Analytics

2-20-20

If you are a business or an entrepreneur on social media, you should definitely be using analytics. This is not a new concept, although, it may be new to you, as it is for me. Analytics will help you determine which platforms are getting the most foot traffic, which promotions are getting the most interactions, and which times and days people are viewing your content so you can be more effective with your post/advertisements.

This is an example of what analytics look like. As you can see, they tell you about new viewers, when they are most active, and about post interactions.

These insights will help you determine what content of yours is attracting your intended targeted audience(s), which are getting the most interactions, which are not working well, and when you should be posting to get the most views and interactions.

I just recently started using these for my Facebook Page, Jay Breeze Music, and it has been incredibly helpful in determining these types of questions. It has helped me with scheduling posts and the type of content I should be posting to get the best reaction from my audience. I suggest every business/entrepreneur should do the same.

Graphic Resumes

2-6-20

I got the opportunity to convert my regular, boring resume into something more visually appealing. I’m sure there are multiple websites, but the one I used was Canva. (In case you wanted to try it out!) It lets you pick from a bunch of different templates and then design your own graphic resume. Here is what mine ended up looking like!

P.S. I like Red and Black lol

You can make your resume stand out from all the rest, giving you a head start in your application process. This is a good tool, especially if you are going into an extremely competitive field like myself with Audio Production.

New (to me) Social Media Tool

1-30-20

I am currently taking a social media campaign class at my school – Minnesota State University, Moorhead – and one of our assignments is to become Hootsuite certified.

Going into this assignment, I had no idea what Hootsuite was at all. I had never heard of it. However, if you are in charge of multiple social media accounts, whether personal or professional, I suggest you look into it!

Hootsuite allows you to manage all your accounts in one place. This means you can schedule posts, have the same post across all platforms, manage who has access to what accounts, and respond to messages and tags incredibly easily.

This is a great tool for someone like me who is trying to push their own music to the public. Having this resource is going to make it easier to make and schedule posts for future days and respond to comments and reposts extremely quick.

If you think this sounds like something you could use in your own life, take a look here!

New Year – New Projects

1-23-20

As many of you know, I am an Audio Production major at Minnesota State University – Moorhead. I am in my final year and plan to take full advantage of the equipment and opportunities provided to me from the school.

There are a certain set of ethics and rules that come with posting your music online – especially when it comes to doing covers of other artist’s songs. Many artists do not mind if you do covers of there songs, as long as you are not making profit off of them. If you are, you are required to purchase something called a compulsory license.

Also, if you are creating original material and not copyrighting it, others can steal it in its entirety and not have any repercussions. You need to be smart about what you are posting and who you are allowing to view/listen to it.

I plan on doing three projects this semester in my Advanced Studio Projects class. Those include:

  • The Flute Song by Russ (Cover)
  • With You by Chris Brown (Cover)
  • And a Original title “Mental Health”

I’m excited to get started on these projects and will keep you updated as I move forward with them.

If you have any suggestions for blog ideas or questions for me, feel free to contact me by any means necessary.

Thanks,

Jay
